Of course it is a bast***d to get at . It is after all a Land Rover.
My wife always uses ky jelly in those situations. She is always saying that it works on her Disco for smooth slippery rubber.

In all seriousness.
I wedged the foam backed cardboard (I'm assuming sound/heat deadening) behind the heater blower temporarily.
Anything to make the plug a bit slippery, I just used a smidge of vegetable oil (first thing I found) and got one side of the lip in.
After that some careful pokes and it was nice and snug in place.

I assumed you would have removed the footwell trim before attempting to do anything on the wiring. If you were trying to get to the plug with it bent back I'm not surprise it was hard to get at.

Yep, Had to remove half of it anyway to remove the old hands free kit.
I did try to remove the bracket that holds the wiring up to just get a bit more room but it would have been more effort than it was worth.
