head gasket gone what else to do
hey
so been having a coolant leak for a while on my 03 v8 disco. started with the heater bit on the carb which we bypassed which fixed it for a bit but then it kept losing coolant. i replaced all top hoses and thermo and flushed the radiator but still losing it. noticed it was wet under the right head so had my mate look at it and yes a blown gasket. so i have a vrs kit coming and we are going to install it but while im under there what else could i do to give her some grunt anything. my mate has built everything and suggested twin turbos HAHA but im thinking something more mild that could done while we are under it without much cost.

Are you 100% is the head?. I was convinced that mine was a problem and a pre purchase inspection report from an LR mechanic said oil an coolant was weeping from the Right Head Gasket (which they stated was normal for this model).
My father who is a retired mechanic during his visit from the UK brought over a VRS set and set to work for me. Turns out the leaks were from the valley Gasket Bolts which one was finger tight after the Valley Gasket was replaced by LR dealership. and the front of the right head was actually the bolt from the water pump through the timing cover. Given that I had free labour we did the heads anyway. The gaskets were fine. Is the right head we at the rear or the front? As the front does not have the full open water jacket like the rear does.

it was the front right looking at it got it to the block today and it was the gasket plus a few other areas. it looked worse then a deisel for oil until we hit the block which was perfect but for a car thats done 200000 the cylinder had been honed before me but no sign of wear from the rings. my mate who is a mechanic said that it could be blowing oil past the rings and no good compression. now its come down to just do the head gaskets and bolt it all back together, rebuild the engine with new rings etc or buy a new car
