    3 amigos

    hi, i need some help
my disco td5 has had the 3 amigos up for a while now
isolated problem to drivers front wheel by jacking all wheels in turn off the ground got a speedo reading off all other wheels but nothing on drivers front
all 4 sensors showed the same resistance so fitted a new hub as there was a very small amount of play on the bearing
jacked the wheel up still no reading on speedo
connected the drivers sensor to the passenger side and speedo works
am i right to assume a fault in the wiring from where the sensor plugs in inside the engine bay if so where does it go?
or could it still be one of the many problems that seem to be associated with abs?

    Driver Side front ABS Location

I'd use a Nanocom or hawkeye to diagnose the fault and isolate the cause. The connector for the driver front abs is under the brake booster, so you can try to clean that up or bypass it. Chase the wire from the sensor to the connector in case the wire has been damaged. Big issues in the UK with corrosion due to snow and deicing solutions need to be catered for I guess.

Thanks bsperka the connector seems fine I don't have access to diagnostics but wouldn't that tell me what I already know? I know that no signal is being received from that wheel. The wheel sensor is working I connected it to the opposite side and it worked. So am I being stupid to think its as simple as rewire from connector to slabs ecu or does it go somewhere else first?

If you are confident the issue is upstream of the driver side ABS connector, quickest check would be to swap out the ABS ECU under the passenger glovebox. Fault finding in wiring looms is unlikely unless they've been tampered with, could be very tricky and best done by exception.

    run some temporary wiring

Try run some temporary wiring to the abs from the sensor connector or sensor to see if its the sensor wiring.

    So...

So....dodgy chopper on the hub? Or faulty channel in the ABS computer?

Just taken out the abs ecu checked plugs and unit for water damage. Seems ok. So ordered a replacement from eBay. Should be here in a couple of days. Fingers crossed.
Thanks for the help so far

    Hi
the part in teh bold Italic Yellow, please could you explain how you did that?
maybe I am being thick today but I don't see how to jack a wheel up and get a speedo reading

I took mine to my local specalist - Hypertune - I was there when we intergated the computer and there were no fault codes.
Mrs Hay Ewe wants it fixed soon....

    thanks

    thanks

I read this on another forum
Jack each wheel in turn off the ground and start the engine
Engage 1st gear the wheel will turn giving a speed reading
Mines an auto I assume a manual is the same just release the clutch
    3 wheels gave a speedo reading 1 didn't
Process of elimination there was a fault with that wheel
Not sure why this works I thought traction control would kick in
I kept my foot over the brake just in case and only let it run until the speedo moved
Didn't tell me what the problem was just told me it was something to do with that wheel
