    Question Fuel tank guard options

I'm interested in fitting a guard onto the fuel tank. For those who have fitted one, what brand did you go for?

Scott. Try Outcast Offroad on the Gold Coast. Pretty sure they make them in steel. I believe Terrafirma do one in aluminium. I think I would go the Ali one myself just for the weight saving.
    Cheers

    A/M? Aftermarket?

Bearmach also sell one, part number BA 097 - http://www.bearmach.com/downloads/Te...F/BA%20097.pdf

I'm liking the Terrafirma TF864 though, it's steel and cheaper than the aluminium units. The back of the D2 has the SLS, so the extra weight won't sag the suspension and the steel is likely to be more durable.

For anyone interest, I picked up the Terrafirma TF868 and TF864 fuel tank guard and gearbox guard from LandyBoys.com ( Land Rover Spare Parts & Accessories – Defender Freelander Discovery ) for GBP273.55 delivered (which equates to AUD$450.00). I figured this is pretty reasonable when I consider the cost of the steering guards locally and so have gone ahead with the order.

Yep. I agree Scott, that's a great price mate.
Don't forget to post up the photos once you have them fitted.

It arrived yesterday (pretty quick for a 24kg parcel from the UK) and I fitted it this morning.
Relatively easy to fit provided you have the following:
    1. loosen the bolts on the towbar braces (I didn't do this until a fair way in which caused me to spend a lot longer than I needed to)
    2. have someone to pass things to you as your holding up the guard and the fuel tank - may also be required to assist with the holding depending on your strength and the fuel tanks status (the guard alone is 24kg)
    3. ensure your fuel tank is close to empty - don't do it with a full fuel tank, it'll be way too heavy and awkward to hold - my tank was almost empty, and I found it would stay up there even without me holding

Not my vehicle, but it looks almost the same as mine fitted:

    Or skilfully crafted home-made job?

I got some prices from British Motor Imports today on the Alloy vs Steel Terrafirma fuel tank guards as well as their transmission guard.

They make Scott's prices look very, very good. And have made my decision equally simple.

The TF 868 Transmission guard is $340 + GST.

And the options on the fuel tank guards come in at:
    Alloy TF 865 $460 + GST (7.7kgs)
    Steel TF 864 $375 + GST (12.7kgs)

Those prices are ex-NSW somewhere I believe. $40 freight to my place in SE Qld.
