    SRS light keeps haunting me

Over the last few month, Bessy has been intermittently lighting up the SRS warning.

After searching the site, I found that if you disconnect the yellow connectors under the drivers and passanger seats and reconnect them, the warning light disappears. I have done this a number of times, and even gone as far as spraying the connectors with electrical contact spray.

The warning light will disappear for at most 3 weeks, then Bessy will light it up again.

    This is getting annoying.

    My questions are:

    1. Is there a connector that I am missing that needs to be looked at?
    2. Does this mean that there is indeed a problem with the SRS system, and as such will need to be looked at?
    3. Can I simply cut the connectors and solder the wires together, to get rid of the connectors all together. I am guessing though, if this was done, and I had an accident, there would be questions as to whether my insurance would cover it, due to it being a "modification" to the SRS circuit.

    Your thoughts and answers appreciated.

    Cheers

    Matt

Connectors under the seat would be my first point of call and where I have had issues in the past. Does it happen when you move the seat?

Before going further, I'd strongly recommend plugging in a diagnostic tool (ie nanocom or hawkeye) and seeing where your problem actually lies. Last time it happened to me the logged error was the passenger seat connection, which had come off the seat and got dislodged when the seat was moved.

If you don't have a diagnostic tool look in the member list on the electronic diagnostics page for some one near you who will be happy to help, particularly if liquid refreshment is provided

    cheers

    thanks Rok_Dr,

The seats dont get moved back and forward as a rule, as I am the only person that drives her the majority of the time.

I will have to pm someone with a nanocom I guess for some help

    Cheers

There are 4 pyro devices each with connectors (2 front airbags; plus 2 seatbelt pre-tensioners on front seats that are below the buckle clips). There is also the rotary coupler inside the steering wheel that connects the airbag and allows the steering wheel to turn. The ECU is on the transmission tunnel in the centre. Connectors on any of these or the components themselves could be the issue, so Nanocom or similar is best way to focus efforts. Recommend disconnecting battery and leaving 10 mins before any work on SRS, as they are 'explosive' devices.

    is your glovebox full?

open it and look through the back, another yellow connector. This gets knocked if the box is full and triggers the srs light.

    THanks for the info guys.

Funny enough, when I got in this morning to go to work, the SRS light came on. Just got into the truck then, and the SRS light did not come on. Shes playing games with me.

I think that your car and mine are siblings---I ended up changing the fuse after all the seat moving and checking of seat connectors---worked [so far]

The back of the main fuse box if it gets wet can get corrosion on it (water leaks in from windscreen and grommets down main loom) and can cause these issues and others too...

If changing your fuse stopped it, undo the fuse box pull it forward and have a look behind it!

While your waiting for some one to help with a Nanocom maybe have another look at the plugs under the seats.

It may be the terminals inside the plugs are loose as playing here helped in the past.
I'd try to tighten the female side to make sure it's not a bad connection in either plug.
    Cheers, Kyle
