My Discovery cargo storge unit

My barrier is a modified D1 barrier from my old disco
I trimmed it down height wise and inserted some square section that runs from top to bottom, the width of my drawer unit, this mounts to the drawers and is very solid.
I only store light items on top of drawers, all heavy items go in the bottom drawer or in the camper.

I like the idea of a full barrier, but as you said they take up space, and would mean access to the gas bottle & recovery gear hide aways would not be possible.
My cargo barrier will be a 1/4 barrier that will attach the the top of the unit, and somehow attach to the points behind the trim above the rear side windows. Or possibly using a strap to pick up the centre child seat anchor above the rear door. The barrier will more then likely be a modified one from the local recycle place, they always seem to have Falcon & Commodore ones

My old man's Jeep uses a Ford Falcon cargo barrier as they're an exact fit IIRC. Good luck with making it fit.

Looks good. I like the idea you have with the Gas cylinder. I think I might steal that idea. I am fitting a wedge water tank. But I think there will be room on the drivers side for a 2kg cylinder.

With your fridge slides. How do they lock open and shut?
As we have similar sliders on some tool trays at work. And the lock tab holds the tray open. But we use a spring bolt to hold it shut.

Just normal structural 15mm ply. It took just under two 2400 x 1200 sheets.

Each slide has a catch, you need to push the catches down to release the slide, then when it's fully extended they auto lock. Push both the catches down again to push the slide back in.

Nothing special, 6mm ply. In hindsight I should have used thicker for the table, I edged it in aluminium 'j' section to give a bit more strength but think I will need to add another wire stay in the middle.

The back was then covered in marine carpet. I want to get some laminate for the work top side, but not sure where to get it yet.

Great job. I did something similar (see post discovery-2/137723-rear-drawers-storage-systems.html#post1566150). The only thing I would do differently next time is that I'd use different slides for the fridge slide. Despite best attempts, if you go off road you get dust in the vehicle, especially through rear door. Whilst the full extension slides on the drawers were ok as they were "sealed" in the drawer box, the slides on the fridge slide became gritty and clogged with dust over time and have to be removed, cleaned and regreased.

Next time, I'd use slides with cam follower rollers which are sealed. You don't get full extension so they are longer closed for a given pull out length but they are effectively maintenance free. There's a supplier in SAust who supplies both types quite reasonably. If you wish I can look them up in my records.
