    Asbestos Brake Pads

My td5 is a '99 model, it's done over 200,000 K's so I guess it's had a brake pad change somewhere down the line, perhaps after the 2004 laws which banned the importation of asbestos products.

Just wondering if these pads had/have the nasty stuff in them?

    1999 and 2003

Abestos was banned for use in the UK in 1999; Australia in 2003, so chances are pretty low or nil. But any brake dust should be treated as dangerous. Never blow it out with compressed air etc, clean out with fluids etc.

FWIW Ferodo and Bendix phased out asbestos in the early/mid nineties.

We were using Asbestos free race pads in '93-'94 from Ferodo and Mintex.
