    Hard starting

    Hi there,

I noticed that my td5 was becoming harder to start, and losing power with a rich fuel smell at idle.
I noticed that there was oil at the back of the head which was contaminating the crank position sensor. Gave it a spray inside the plastic plug and cps terminals, and she now goes like a rocket again.
Has anyone seen the head gasket leak from there or could it be coming from somewhere else?? It's just near the fuel pressure reg.

    Cheers

    You posted Oil...

Isn't there a cam shaft seal at the rear that could also be the culprit?

Seals on injectors are probably passing, be careful, got a blown TD5 on thedrive due to this it's a cheap fix now but will be expensive if you don’t fix asap…Joe

Joe... Care to explain your rationale?

How does the symptoms of hard starting and oil down back of head lead you to "injector seals"?

hard starting, caused by diesel leaking from the FPR and contaminating the Crank Sensor is well documented.

Same for oil from the rear of the head.

But your advice - and it's link to the symptoms above - has me intrigued.
