    injector harness

    Hi Guys, today I looked at my ECU to see if it had a chipped label on it as it goes really well.
    I pulled the loom to check for engine oil and yes It was down in the ECU plug. Rats!.
    Now, I see harnesses including a new rocker cover gasket for 70 to 80 odd dollars.
    The question is , do these come with the loom from the engine to the ECU?
    I don't seem to see these looms for sale anywhere on the net.
    I also need an inlet to heater hose as mine has rubbed through on the back of the block. All helpful comments appreciated.

    I got my engine harness from Famous Four in the UK for 155 pounds plus 69.50 pounds carriage however that was December 2011. After fitting the performance was greatly improved.

    Following on from my earlier reply, the engine harness is quite substantial as it goes to all the engine sensors etc and would not be included with the injector harness and gasket, hence sourcing mine from the UK to save money. I also got my injector harness from the UK for 26 pounds from Brookwells, probably not much of a saving there as your $70 - $80 including Gasket sounds OK.

    The engine harness is fairly pricey and there is a bit of work involved in changing it.

    Part Numbers are:
    Up to 1A735730: YSB108710 (OEM £140-170, Genuine: £420)*
    1A735730 onwards: YSB000841 (OEM £250, Genuine: £450)

    Should be OK just washing the harness out unless there is physical damage - something like Isopropyl Alcohol would be perfect for the task.

    If you do need to replace the engine harness they are still 155 pounds up to 1A735730 or 295 pounds from 1A735731 @ Famous Four.

    injector harness

    Thanks guys. My car goes really well.
    I figured that I had to replace the wire loom to get all the oil out as that is my only problem.
    Where does the oil seep through? Is it between the copper wire and the insulation or around inside the outer cover?
    also do I need new rubber where it comes out of the head?

    If you fit a new injector harness that will come with new 'O' rings for the head connection, I used a little silicone as well to be sure but probably unnecessary. The oil migrates down the engine harness and wires from this connection when it fails to seal one way or another and even travels up hill to get to the ECU. This becomes even more problematic when the plastic insulation on the wires becomes brittle with age etc and starts to crack leading to false signals. Probably best to replace it at that stage. Cleaning it if it is in reasonable condition should be fine as Paul says, but I think removing the harness to clean it properly may cause some other issues as the wires that travel around the back of the head to the sensor are brittle from heat etc. Paul may be able to add further wisdom.

    I'm new to D2s so this may seem a stupid question, but I'll ask any way

    Given that the outer covering is just to keep the wires together, would it not be possible to just make a hole in the said covering at the bottom of the arc to allow the oil to drain out rather than allowing it to work its way up to the ECU?

    This is a good point.I wonder if it would really work? Any one tried it?
