    Auto sump magnet

Does anyone know the rough dimensions of the magnet in the Auto trans sump by any chance?

I had the Auto serviced last time by a supposedly reputable firm that "a lot of people in the car trade use" and have discovered that they didn't bother refitting the magnet and have refitted a completely rounded out torx head screw to the filter. ******!!

    cheers
    Paul

Guess it doesn't matter too much. I'm just going to grab a couple of 40mm x 15mm x 8mm neodymium magnets from these guys: Fastmag Magnets - Magnetic Neodymium Rare Earth Blocks

From the information on that site normal neodymium magnets are stable to around 80°C which is normal operating temperature for auto fluid so I think these should be ok. There is another 120°C stable grade which would be a whole lot better but not sure where to source these without subjecting myself to the vagaries of the postal system.

From memory I don't think they were as big as the ones you have linked to, you can now put "slightly" less oil in if you have bigger volume magnets

Memory is a bad thing from 2 weeks ago, but, about 35 x 20 x 8mm. Thought is was a little small, but cleaned up and put back in. Open the old filter and cut the sieve, thats the scary bit!!!
