Spoke to mechanic again. Inertia switch operation comes up in the fault log so no luck there. I will still remove and check the battery bracket on the weekend. Warning light come on again. Frustrating problem.

Clelo, I have the exact same problem with the same car. Have you managed to resolve the problem and if so, what was the cause?

Hi, Does the engine stop completly or does the light illuminate and the engine returns to idle?

If the engine returns to idle and accepts no input from the accelerator it may be this. Just had mine replaced but the problem was intermittent for about a year.

Thank you for responding Lost, yes the car returns to idle and will only idle and the engine light comes on. Turn off the engine, wait a second and then restart and all is well until the next time. Will post again when I know more.

The symptoms you describe is the same as my accelerator pedal - no faults were being logged until the unit failed completely and finally logged a driver input error.
$145 to replace as I recall, but was you describe scarey to drive, if you have cruise control the symtoms will not appear as the engine receives its input from the ecu and not the accelerator, I ended uo driving to my mechanic on cruise,

    Hey mate.
Anyone around Canberra with a Nanocom? That would be your best bet initially.
