    Transfer box kits?

Getting sick of topping up T/box oil, what gasket / seal kits do I need to order?
Also is it relatively easy to replace output bearings while it is out?

Get onto Ashcroft and order their LT230 master rebuild kit. Only 90 pounds, also get the extended sump (65 pounds) and one piece cross shaft for the centre diff (45 pounds) shipping would be by express service, make sure you get door to door. It'll be under the GST threshold well and truly. Should take about4-5 days, request TNT Express door to door. DHL isn't great (from last experience with both in the same week). Pay by PayPal, better rates and no credit card foreign currency fee.

Let me know if that's how you're going, I might add to your order and split the shipping costs, also shipping into Sydney and then local transfer of stuff in a new shipment can be cheaper than shipping int'l direct to WA.

I'm not trying to spoil your party as sharing the shipping and then paying the local frieght might still be cheaper but it might be cheaper to ship WA then Sydney rather than the other way around.

I'm in Darwin and the last 2 parcels I have tracked have come via Perth. The last was 3 air springs and a couple of other samll things from Paddocks. I have a winch still coming (it's in perth now) from the US.

From what I have seen most int'l shipping dont care where you are in Australia, the rate is to Australia.

FWIW The LT230SE in the D2 uses sealant, not gaskets. The current listing from LR for the sealant on the covers and housings is STC4600 which is Hylomar 3400. Most people seem to use copious amounts of RTV instead.

Having used the Hylomar 3400 when replacing the head on my Td5 - it's specified for the camshaft carrier to cylinder head join - I'd have no hesitation in using for the TC reseal.

Clubagreenie, what is the benefit in getting the one piece cross shaft? Are the TC prone to over heating? Is that what the bigger capacity sump is for?

The one piece cross is solid throughout where as the two individual shafts normally used are milled down where they cross at the centre and so are weaker.

The larger capacity sump holds more oil, so runs cooler and also is cast alloy and has additional fins cast into it's underside (in the air flow path) for cooling.

As for shipping, after my last two shipments which I tracked because DHL couldn't identify their own airway bill number they came direct (non stop) into Sydney, but were London/Dubai/Sydney. You're probably right though in the sense that they'll just stick it on the most appropriate flight available.

If it's possible, check the intermediate shaft hole in the casing as well before ordering. They tend to flog out as the shaft sits in the alloy case. They also have a steel sleeved housing available that's heaps cheaper than having it done locally. I have one sitting here waiting to be built up.
