    Sump and Transmission plugs... Magnetic

    Has anyone replaced the sump and transmission oil plugs with a plug fitted with a magnet... I would like to do this and thought I would ask if anyone has any links to a supplier.

    I have placed a powerful disc magnet on the sump plug on the TD5 which in effect magnetizes the plug. No metal on it so far.

    I epoxied 2 x Jaycar rare earth magnets to my RRC sump plug.

    I didn't anticipate how damn hard it would be to get the plug into the steel sump!!
    However this should not be a problem with a TD5 as it has an alloy sump.

    You used to be able to buy a plastic strip/belt of rare earth magnets from Jaycar , and use them individually. They are around 5CM or so in diameter and I found the magnet and epoxy held it firmly in place.

    Smash up an old computer ..strong magnets in them.
