Gday, just wondering if the Disco has a filter in the aircon system to stop smells coming into the cab, we never used to get any smells inside but of late we are getting fuel smells from cars we are following and other smells from outside any ideas or suggestion's please

There isn't a filter as such. The is some coarse foam that stops debris entering the blower inlet but that is about it.

Lift the bonnet and below the wiper panel there is the fresh air intake. There should be a long black foam filter.
It might stop dirt and dust but its not going to stop smells.

If you hold the recirculate button for a few seconds it beeps and goes into a timed operation mode which switches back to normal flow through ventilation after about 5minutes.

Your recirculate flap may not actually closing when your press the recirc button - it may be stuck in the half way position allowing a mix of recirc and fresh air and smells into your car even with the recirc button pressed.

This is what happened to mine on a trip around OZ - we couldn't work out how the mice and dust got into the car for 3 Months!

To check it, remove the covering above the pasenger footwell and look at the top right rear (front of car). Press the recirc button (eg with car running) and you should see a motor with a rotating shaft and a lever on the end. The lever operates the recirc flap - it may have come off the shaft and so the motor turns and the flap stays open.

Some times car A/C can develop smells from bacteria etc. I picked up a can of Auto Glym air con sanitizer and ran it through the system.
No overpowering perfume, just a nice clean smell when done.
