I noticed last night that RAVE lists Shell ESL as the mandated brake fluid for the D2. After checking the specs it appears that the ESL has half the viscosity at -40degC of most commonly available DOT 4 fluids. This obviously helps with cold climate performance but at least one oil company notes that low viscosity fluid improves ABS system response times. It's not that clear if this is only low temperatures.

After a bit of searching I've found a fluid that looks to be very similar in viscosity to the Shell ESL, but is available from a Sydney based eBay seller. The fluid is called Pentosin DOT4 LV and seems to go for around $25 for a 1 litre tin.

As its not really any more expensive than buying 500ml bottles of Castrol React I thought it might be worth investigating.

Cheers
