    "A" pillar trim

Been chasing a water leak and have removed and replaced the A pillar trims. Thought I'd give my 2 cents worth as to removal and replacement.
The 3 retaining clips are at (measuring from roof down) 7 -30 -57cm. Can be gently teased out with your fingers under edge of cover . Reassembly quite easy - remove clips from bodywork and attach to plastic cover, then slide in and gently 'tap' into position.
I had no dramas, and hope this may help.
...next step to check the roof rack seals................

No sunroof. No rear a/c. All of a sudden got quite a significant leak at front left corner of windscreen. I'm thinking possible leak from roof rack coming in and making its way to the roof lining. I 'sealed' around them with blutack on the outside and the leak was not as bad, so that's no1 priority. Just thought I'd eliminate front roof and windscreen corners before I tackle removing the headlining.

Check the inside the drip rails above the a-pillars. The sealant on the seams can develop cracks or pins holes.

Irksome water leaks at windscreen corner!

I had a similar problem about a year ago. Remove the drip rail moulds at the front (about 450 mm or so). As Offtrack mentioned, the sealant cracks and can open up to allow water ingress along the common seams, particularly when the vehicle is being driven at freeway speeds.

I removed all the existing sealant with a very sharp knife, back to metal where you can see the joins in the structure. Use a paintable Sikaflex sealant (available from a decent body repairs supplier) to reinstate the seal, but make sure that everything is bone dry. Use a hairdryer to remove all vestiges of moisture before reapplying the seal. The sealant comes in white or black, AFAIR. You'll only need a small tube.

You may need to ease the corner of the headliner to check for water ingress, but it will be obvious if the rim of the headliner gets moist or drips land on the rear vision mirror!

It's a bit of a PITA job. It is also the subject of a TSB from Land Rover.

    Touch wood, all fixed now.

Sikaflex 227 should be fine, designed for automotive seam sealing, and is paintable. Supercheap has the 150ml tubes.

    cheers

Thanks for that. Headlining out, both front corners have been cleaned out and resealed with sikaflex, and I'm pretty sure that there has been an issue with the sealing of the roof racks. Dampness inside the bolt holes. Sealed them as well, now I'm just waiting on the rooflining - decided to get it retrimmed while its out. Sick of the sags.

Dino, go see Classic Trimmers on Maroondah Hwy (6/477, I think), just east of Car City in East Ringwood. Steve Dodd is the go with headliners. 9879 4932.
