Have you tried unplugging the MAF and see if there is any improvement? That would tell you.
Other reasons: Missing due to poor coil packs/HT leads need replacing/Vacuum leak somewhere? Not sure about that last one.

I am hoping someone can shed some light on this issue. Finding local mechanics that can work on the Landrover with an outcome is proving difficult.

Only appears to be a problem when at operating temperature...???
When driving you can feel power loss that is causing the disco to hesitate for a second. Can happen while cruising or accelerating. But other than the intermittent hesitation, the car runs ok.
After it has been driven and is at operating temperature, if idling when stopped to open the gate for instance, the motor will intermittently stall. Sometimes it will happen, sometimes the motor will just hesitate while idling and then rev to compensate for almost stalling and other times it will just stall. When the car is driving, I think I can feel a very slight pulse / inconsistent power. But i mean very slight, i don't think many people would pick up on it. The pulse may just be my imagination.... But the intermittent hesitation is very noticeable.
My thoughts are that it could be the MAF which I replaced last year with a $50 ebay replacement or possibly the crank angle sensor....????
I have just replaced the battery, has made no difference.
May be unrelated, but since replaceing the MAF last year, only on cold mornings, the car will run very rough for about 15 seconds and almost stall. After this 15 or so seconds, the car runs fine. This has been the case since replacing the MAF, whereas the hesitation whilst driving has only been a noticeable problem for about a month. Being warm up here at the moment, I rarely see the morning rough start, but I am guaranteed to have this on a cold morning. As it is not noticeable after 15 seconds, it hasn't been a big enough issue to spend time on. Thought I would mention this as it may help diagnose the problem.
Any ideas would be great. The nearest Rover service department is Bundaberg, 1.5 hrs away. They are not very helpful, actually not yet helpful on the phone at all. I don't want to loose a day and take it to Bundy to not have an outcome or have to loose another day to return once they have ordered the parts....... I am waiting for confirmation from them that they have a MAF, crank angle sensor etc in stock before heading up there. I really like this car, however resolving problems is a headache and the local mechanics say it is fine for them as they don't take it on a 15 minutes drive.....

Misfire at higher temps suggests leads and coils.

I didn't think to unplug the MAF due to a problem I had last year.... I did however unplug the MAF. I just drive into town and back which is about a 20 km round trip. Didn't have any problem at all. The car drove smoothly. So I then plugged the MAF back in and went for another drive, which was also smooth. No issue at all.
It generally happens more so when the car is warm, I don't recall driving the car at night time in the last month since the problem started, so I am wondering if the fact it is currently cooler means I didn't see the problem.... It is the first time it hasn't happened. Or did unplugging the MAF clear or re calibrate something??? I guess I will see on the drive home tomorrow afternoon.
The problem I had last year was with water. I replaced the MAF and now I am wondering if I needed to. After heavy rain I drove through about 1ft of water (a little too fast) getting home from work, the car then started running very rough and I couldn't drive faster than 20kmh. I actually had to put the car in low range jus to get up our street and driveway. I thought the MAF had been damaged due to a little water going into the air intake. The car would not run any better with or without the MAF connected. I replaced the throttle position sensor and the MAF. At first the problem didn't appear resolved, after about 30 seconds of idling on the new MAF the car then started running smoothly again. Perhaps water had got into somewhere else and just happened to clear up....
I will drive the car tomorrow with the MAF connected, when the problem returns I will disconnect the MAF and see what happens...
I would almost bet on a coil pack with a cracked housing. It started when you drove in water which got into the coil pack and gave your problems. It has since dried out but the crack is expanding under heat which is causing the spark to short out. The other possibility is dodgy HT leads. For the couple of dollars they should be replaced anyway after the years . HT leads do break down yet are mostly forgotten about at service time!

Thanks for all the input. I will replace the leads and coil pack. Would anyone recommend a particular brand of leads and where to purchase from online? I have had trouble even getting an air filter locally, I bought the last one on eBay. I will look on eBay for a coil pack. Does anyone know of a good Australian source for rover parts that will send promptly to Qld? Or is eBay my best bet?

I have ordered two coil packs and a new set of leads. Booked in with the mechanic for Tuesday. The coils are not is the most friendly location.....
