Hey guys, I have an 03 Discovery, its been leaking oil (lhr) onto brakes, wheel etc making a hell of a mess,i've replaced the "O" ring on outer side of bearing but to no avail. The workshop manual does'nt show a axle seal,so i called All 4x4,nope none listed, can't buy the sealed bearings on there own, must buy complete axle unit, hub etc. At $495 i just cant justify it!Have any of you had the same thing? Is there any way to replace the bearing/seal?? Any advice appreciated ,cheers Ross
i thought there is only the oring, maybe pinched it on refitting?.
There is no bearings available to repair the hubs. They are a strictly replacement job only. As for price shop around, check Flea bay and other outlets, although that price is not real bad to some I have seen.
Cheers Scott
The only seal is the o-ring (FTC4919), which fits to the hub assy (TAY100050). The axle is a separate item to the hub assy and you'll need a new stake nut as these need to be replaced whenever removed, and tensioned to something ludicrous.
As the bearing is pressed into the hub (which must be heated and the bearing frozen) and the axle fits into the splines on the drive flange the only place oil can escape is either out past the o-ring, which will end up inside the disc and fling out onto the surface or past the bearing and migrate down the splines and past the nut and end up in the back of the wheel hub.
