Why???

I thought the plastic were superseded and you could only get the steel?

That LCL100020 part no is listed for 1999-2003, the range of my book. There's no supplementary listing for later models or super-sessions. For completeness, can someone list the steel part number in case someone is looking and searching later, plus I can add it to my book.

The plastic dowels are still the officially mandated replacement on EU2 engines. LR specifically warn against fitting steel dowels to the EU2 engine as there is a risk of cracking the heads at the drillings.

This a bit off topic, Bryan can use what he wants, its his engine, but I have fitted steel dowels to heaps EU2 engines and have never seen a one crack because of the steel dowels. I even use the TD5 steel dowels in my L series freelander when I done the head. (Freelanders use the same plastic head dowels)
Is there anyone who has seen one crack because of the steel dowels?

Id make the observation that the plastic dowels are generally causing head gasket failures at 200,000+ Km.

Until we see EU2 Td5's making the same kind of mileage after steel dowels are fitted claims of "no problems" are a little premature.
