If the ECU detects any out of parameter sensors it will set various default settings (limp mode), it should also light up the the Engine Management Light (EML) on the dash.

Hi All,
I hope you are well. I have had an issue crop up this morning after doing the school and kindy run on my way home where I seemed to loose power / acceleration. I was only able to do about 40k's in the end and higher revs to get anywhere!
I called out the RACV not too long after getting home and he revved the bejebers out of the engine as I thought it may have been an issue with the fuel line / injectors... but it all sounded fine (no spluttering). He also checked the alternator / battery and that was all fine too. (I have a new battery btw).
How do I know if the engine is in Limp Mode? .... I have a manual V8 (most of the issues I have read relate to an auto / TD etc).
.... should any lights on the dash appear? What should I expect?..... What's the best way to drive the vehicle if it goes into this limp mode? I don't have a nanocom to provide any errors...
I appreciate the clarification and help :-D
Many thanks,
Lp

What happened since the roadside assist left - has it continued to run poorly?
I suspect bad (as in really shot) MAF, but it could be a shot coil pack. A good LR specialist will quickly sort it out.
Cheers
Thanks for the replies.
I did the kindy and school pickup and all seemed to run ok as per usual. MAF was replaced by LR specialist when I had a swag of work done on the engine a few years ago. I'm paranoid to drive the damn thing now so have hubby making contact with the mechanic (LR specialist) and hopefully he will have the time to look at it next week.
Cheers,

Kids are on extended holidays while I am waiting for a MAF... 'the MAF is naFFed' to come in, fingers crossed this is just the problem!
Out of curiousty, how long does a MAF last for? As mentioned, mine was replaced a few years (maybe even 18 months) ago with a new one out of the box. I don't go off road nor through rivers. On the occasional winter downpour, I may need to cross a road that has some water but not like a river crossing, more like the bottom of my tyre water crossing level lol!... I don't live in the outback with dust to contend with... so.... how does one maintain a MAF?
Daft questions but hey... that's the land of landrovers.... hubby is now calling my landrover 'the anchor' *boo hoo*... when I had that name reserved for his fj40 all the time! HA
BTW - I was advised that the Manuals don't go into a limp mode!
Thanks for any further insight

Without looking up RAVE I think thats right...the engine performance just degrades on the manual but no limp mode as such.
As for the life of a MAF - was it genuine LR? I have tried several aftermarket ones that are so called identical Bosch and even a Webber (as in the legendary name in Carbs and later fuel injection) from the UK. Webber were great and paid for me to send it back to them and said they wont sell to Aus anymore because it clearly cannot run in our conditions (mid summer here when I got it). Nothing works like a genuine LR one in my experience. I think on average they last about 3 years or so before slow decline. It just normally gets doughy but still runs quite well. When you then throw a new one at it it seems like its just had some porting and polishing! I dont like the fact that they dont last longer, but that little element is never going to last forever. See the BMW forums with the same problems.
Cheers
Thanks for the reply.
Apparently, it wasn't the MAF as a new one was changed over from my one and tested and no difference, so no point in replacing that one I was told. It was driven a few times over the course of a few days and the problem was unable to be replicated... one of those transient gremlins in the making perhaps as I was advised !!...
I did notice fumes in the cabin before it did what it did and this was explained to the LR specialist and as advised to my hubby, perhaps it was an intermittent blocked fuel line as it has not happened since and I have driven it off and on with the school and kindy run... I'm at a loss and so is the LR mechanic!
I don't know what brand the MAF is to be honest... 300$ to replace with a new one, don't know if that helps with the brand. Sound about right what I paid.
Back onto the potentiality of the fuel line being blocked tho as suggested by the mechanic.... I recall when I had it serviced that I was given a bottle of 'something' to pour into my tank before I filled up and was told that is was something I could not get in the shops, or was better than what was sold in the shops... can't remember specifics, but I think it was to clear out any fuel injectors... from memory the small bottle was either red or black?
Is there a brand or particular product I can put down the tanks gullet on my next fill up that folk could recommend to clean out the fuel injectors please??
I hope the above makes sense, trying to type super fast while chicken butter cream curry is cooking, 1 asleep, 2 inside and 2 causing a rackus outside hahah!
Maybe i'd be better off with a horse and cart!
Thanks again,
Cheers,
LP
