I had one of the air lines rub through 6 inches from the air bag but would only go down intermintatly worth checking
Hello
Intermitently my right bag goes down . I read Weekenders post and the testing recommended and when I get off my lazy but will do it . I went down to get two new bags but changed my mind talking to the parts guys as I am not entirely convinced my are bad , I think I probably have a crock valve .
The story
My right bag goes down when the car is parked on a non level surface , left to right . It also goes down when I drive my suzuki onto the trailer attached to the truck . Inbetween times it is fine , seems to sit at its normal height . When flat it usually pumps back up promptly . Once it refused to pump up , would start , get an inch or so and then drop back down . Took 3 attempts to get it up . Since then it has dropped about 5 times and has come back up fine .
I will have to go and read the manual but I think they try and self level on shutdown and this is when an exh vavle is sticking open .
Not exactly sure why it drops when more weight is on the back once shut down .
Anyone had a simillar issue to save me some time .
Cheers
Chris

the rh bag has a leak. you need to spray soapy water around the lower half of it, then get someone to stand on the rear of the vehicle and jump up and down, or park it on the same uneven ground, you will soon see the problem.

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
why wouldnt the bag go down when you put more weight on it?
The important bit is whether it pumps itself back up to normal ride height,, and how fast it does it.
The bigger the bag hole, the more the compressor has to work, until it just fails.

I agree with JC. Mine was doing exactly the same. 2 x new Dunlop bags and presto, problem solved.
The hole in the bag is to small to see. And will seal or leak dependent on where the role/fold is in the bag. Thus the reason for doing it at different ground levels.
Took me a while to get my head around it to. Pretty sure I followed JC's advice for mine with the soapy water test etc.
Good luck

Any reply to this is going to make me sound like a **** , given that I am already condemmed for being a kiwi , why not.
I would expect most to be able to assume the meaning of "going down" in the context of my post , as opposed to what would normally happen when more weight was added to the back of the vehicle and the airbag "compressing slightly" . But since maybe all of us did not pass year 10 physic's , "going down" in my post refers to the bag deflating , the axle sitting on the bump stop . Making it cock a leg , look like its going to take a pee , etc etc etc .
On the bright side it makes it easier to get in and out of when it does![]()
I will start looking at it in a few weeks when I get some time , as I said in the post my first reaction was to change the bags and undoubtably thats what will happen I guess , just wants to make sure someone else had not had a simmilar issue that indicated it was the valving to save some time . Oh well ....
If you don't address it soon, you'll be up for a new compressor as well. The LR unit is only good for 5% duty cycle, so it will fail, if it is constantly pumping up the air bag.
Maybe a hole or the airbag just failing in the fold area. Soapy water may pick it up (didn't in mine), but taking the airbag out and testing it in a bucket / putting soapy water on it fully extended made it pretty obvious where the air was coming from - it was from an area about 4 cm square. Just small bubbles of air over a large area. Most probably when folded, they wouldn't leak all that much, due to the fabric being compressed.
If its any help(this time)
99.9999999% of airbags "going down" (on this Forum) are leaks---
the odds are I see new bags in your future![]()

Glad someone read the post with the sence of humor it required . Have to say I agree and was my first plan , alas the parts guys doubted it .
Anyway will get off my but tomorrow and clean out the shed and look at dropping the bag out , probably the best way to test for leaks by the sound of it . How much pressure can these things take for a leak test off the vehicle , rough calc would say more than my 100psi crappy compressor .
Thanks
Chris
About 3 weeks ago on a Saturday, the rear went down and would not pump up. Then every other times, the bags would stay up while driving. Even though sometimes they would deflate overnight. Also 3 weeks ago, the soapy water test failed.
What I leant: after driving about 50 minutes to MR on this Saturday, they went down & stayed down. Had to drive home flat (let rear tires down to 22psi) The only load in the car was the new airbag!
The reason - my usual short drives, the compressor coped, on the bigger days out - the compressor shuts down.
the other interesting situation - no foam 3 weeks ago - UNLESS this time used a much soapier mix of a quality dishwashing liquid - Palmolive - the foam was instant!.
Anyway my adventures.....
