    Acoustic cover won't come off

    Hi All,

I cannot get my acoustic cover off, the drivers side bolt is spinning and won't undo. I assume from reading here there is a captive nut behind the cover mounted to the underside of the inlet manifold that has come free. Has anyone else had this problem and what worked to fix it?

I have tried some force to pull the bolt sideways but no improvement. I can't get my hands underneath the cover far enough to feel anything and cannot reach up far enough from underneath the car either. Feeling a little stumped.

I need to sort the fuel cooler as it has a small coolant leak but can't until I remove the cover. Any thoughts welcome.

    Cheers,
    Nova

The cover can be pulled over the gromet with enough force and persistance. Lift the cover from the left side and gradually work the gromet and bolt head through.

Thanks, I'll give that a "gentle" go. Also just remembered I have a parcel here with your name on it (ACE controller), must get to the post office soon.

Same thing happened to me the other night.

I just put a big flat head screw driver under the head of the bolt and put leverage on the bolt so that the clinch nut on the rear of the bracket was forced to bite in to the bracket. This creates enough friction between the nut and the bracket to be able to undo the bolt. One hand on the screw driver levering the bolt, the other hand on the socket undoing it.

Thanks Harps, I had tried that already, it didn't seem to work, maybe I didn't apply enough force to the bolt head. I'll have to have another go before I try and pull it over the rubber grommet.

I didn't initially know about pulling from the other side so ended-up cutting the head off with an angle grinder as there was no way to stop the nut from turning.
