Your Dilemma...![]()
The Harmonic Balance on my 2002 TD5 has busted up and taken a fair bit of the fan belt with it. Luckily it hasn't affected the radiator but I'm not sure what other damage has occured. The point is I think it's time to get rid of this one and hopefully get a new one, it is sitting at 290,000 so it's done its fair share of driving. I am looking for any tips or hints for what I should be looking for to get rid of it at a salvage yard or if anyone has any better ideas.
thanks for any help

If you decide to get rid of it, I'd strongly suggest that you call a couple of the specialist LR or D2 wreckers and see if they will buy it off you. I'm sure it would be worth more to them for parts, rather than just scrap metal value.

Why would you wreck the car for the sake of a $900 harmonic balancer and a $40 belt?
Obviously there is more to it than this
Agree small fix and you will get a reasonable amount for it if everything else is ok. 290k and there's plenty of life left in a td5
look here for replacing/repairing...

Surprised no one else has said this.

Why would you do it! I'm at 386,000 and drives as new, But you do have to keep on top of maintenance etc but it's fun.

It would be a shame to wreck your vehicle for the sake of a reasonably cheap repair. But if you really want to get rid of it stick it on Ebay, be as honest with the description as possible and set a reserve that you would be happy with. I've sold two Land Rovers this way and both times got way more than I expected, you will find that other people will be able to see potential in the vehicle that you can't.
