How much sealant (and where) when fitting sump gasket?

I checked the oil bolt and I want to refit the sump gasket but I wanted to confirm exactly where and how much sealant I should add.

I know the sealant is added to the mating surface rather than the gasket but what amount of sealant should be added (i.e. pea sized bead bigger/smaller?!) and should it be added to the corresponding places I have marked on the attached image (but at the mating face)?

I have looked at the RAVE image but it's a little confusing for a first timer.

P.S - I modified this image from Replace the oil pump bolt in a TD5 as I couldn't find a better one.

Have at look the General Information section of RAVE, under "Joints and Joint Faces"

When jointing compound is used, apply in a thin uniform film to metal surfaces; take care to prevent jointing compound from entering oilways, pipes or blind tapped holes

    Thanks offtrack.

So can anybody confirm if that long red line is the right place for the long bead of sealant?

From memory when I did mine, 2 pea sized blobs on the two joins where the main rear crankseal is.

Don't remember putting any anywhere else.

EDIT My memory is bad, I did what was shown here http://www.discovery2.co.uk/Oil_pump_bolt.html
Two blobs at front cover joints & a bead on the rear crank seal

Thanks - is the rear crank seal where I drew the long red line?

Yep long red line is rear crank seal, I'm on PC now and can see your pic, all the red lines require sealant.
