Disco2 TD5 battery still not charging
Replaced old battery last month thought it was no good even with a 14 volt charge registering. New one now down to 13.2 volts and battery light on all the time and stays at same voltage when idled up to 3000 rpm think alternater is playing up . How the hell do you get the alternater out to be fixed or replaced has anyone had same or similar problem thanks td5 owner with big hands

When I did one I removed the fan and shrouds.
It was then remove the belt and tensioner.
It was then just a mater of going from there.
I'd strongly recommend changing both oil lines for the vacuum pump while your there.
An alternative with some other helpful information ...

battery not charging
remove acoustic cover for access. On the drivers side near the front of the motor conventiently hidden under a wiring harness is the alternator connection to the engine. If it is loose/dirty,you might still get an indication of correct charge voltage but the current flow will be reduced so no charge!
Worth checking.

Hello ram16,
I had the same problem as you, alternator light on and battery slowly loosing its' charge. Rather than fork out for a new or secondhand alternator, there is a mob selling brush and regulator kits out of the UK. www.repairkitsuk.com
I rang and spoke to them. At the time, the bloke recomended getting the brushes and regulator as the regulator is what normally causes the problems. For around 60 or 70 bucks plus postage, it sure saves a hell of a lot of money over a replacement alternator. There is a couple of o-rings to get aswell for the oil lines. I've had the kit in for a while now(6 months or so I think). All seems to be running well.
Cheers,
Jason
