Front Wiper Panel Cover and Pillar Mounts!
Hi Guys,
After replacing a small corner railing on the D2 I noticed that two of the tabs on the a pillar mount were broken and now I'm getting wind noise when I drive. Is it possible/recommended to just use some sort of sealant (i.e. silicone) to fix it to the windscreen and stop the wind noise?
Also, I noticed when I was doing this that the long piece of plastic under the windshield is broken. It's the same piece as this (Land Rover Parts - MOULDING - PLENUM AIR INTAKE EXTENSION - L/R DISCOVERY 2) and I just can't justify spending $300 on it. Wondering whether I should just glue the two places it's broken, or try get a second hand from somewhere. Anyone have one?
Waiting on this before I fix the pillar mount though - means I would have to take both sides off and they suck putting them back on. I think the best way to do it is to remove the metal clips from the body of the car and put them on the tabs before installing.
Any tips appreciated.
Regards,
Antony.

You could buy one from OS from Britcar UK for example. ($229)
Like wise get the A pillar mouldings.
I have previously bought these items from them when they were $160 and roughly $60 each for the A-Pillars.
I have heard of other people (and seen) people using a good dab of silicone to fix them back on.

Good luck with finding a 2nd hand 1! It seems most of them are in worse shape than the 1 you will be chasing
I know! As mine is in 3 bits stuck together with silastic! PO's doing not mine :/. The pillar moldings are available new or 2nd hand and most are oki. New around $80 . Silatic on them is a bodgy solution in my mind unless the rest of the car matches!

Hi,
Thanks, I did see that one on ebay. I think Jag Prestige might have one although I didn't get in touch with Phil today so will see tomorrow. I might leave it for now unless I can get a second hand one (spent about $2k in the last month getting the D2 as close to new as I can), but then need to do something about the pillar that's causing all the wind noise. I'm new in Oz so is there a specific brand or type of silicone product that would do the job well?

I recall doing the ring around when I was chasing one and they wanted the same money for what it cost from the UK. 8 years baked in the sun I don't think so. If you are considering a 2nd hand one now with 10+ years I could only imagine that ending in tears.
When I get my parts from the UK I just have a quick stock take of what else I need to cover the postage.
With regards to silastic just do a search on the net. Look for a silastic a window glass repairer would use because they are the monkeys who usually smash them in the first instance and then say that's how they came. (pigs whistle).

Have a new windscreen?
My plenum cover is broken to bits and the side moulding mounts broken.
You have to remove the bonnet or at least one corner of it to get the plenum cover off to change a windscreen , and my take is that the windscreen fitters cannot be bothered or just don't know until OOPS it broke.
Silly design as even a Honda Jazz has a seam down the middle so you can remove it.
BTW my windscreen looks very new.

Sealant/adhesive to use is Sikoflex 227. Great stuff. Tube available from Supercheap or cartridge from Bunnings.
Maybe we could do a group buy of plenum covers from UK as the freight is a killer because they pack so big . They should nest into each other and should halve or third or so on the freight as it would certainly be based on volume not weight.

I'm not too sure regarding the windscreen, maybe that was it that broke it since I have a crack down the middle which is fairly clean and also a break in the corner. To be honest I didn't notice it at first, but with this D2 every time I fix something I notice something else!
Will get some Sikoflex 227 and just go ahead and fix the pillar mount unless I can get a second hand plenum cover. Maybe not a bad call on ordering from abroad. Alternatively, perhaps we need to open a plastic mould shop and make a mint on Land Rover owners!
Back to the Sikoflex 227, if/when I get a new pillar mount will it just come off with a razor blade?

Sikaflex is great for old Discos - keeps the plastic bit together nicely...just by the one marked noir.
Cheers
