    CDL not engaging.

Went for a spin up around the Thompson Dam this morning. Activated the CDL and noticed the light didn't come on on the dash. It usually takes only a few metres travel for it to come on, but I drove for a couple of hours with no light. At first I thought perhaps the switch was not working properly, but when the rear wheel spun on a difficult section I realised the CDL was not active.
Given I have solid bar under the chassis to activate the spigot and therefore know for sure that the spigot turned the appropriate amount, what would cause the CDL to not engage.
I'm hoping I won't have to pull out the transfer case to find out.

A- You have torn the guts out of the front diff
B- you have torn the guts out of the transfer
C- your front tailshaft has fell off!
C- A very remote possibility, but maybe a connecting pin in the CDL linkage has fell out

If I tore the guts out of anything, I did it very quietly. The feel of the solid linkage is unchanged, so I doubt the linkage is the problem. I will check it though.
I still have drive from all four wheels at times. It just feels like a normal non-CDL setup. Is it possible for the dog clutch to seize inside the TC?

Yeah, with the first 3 theory s it would not have gone quietly The linkage does not have to be out of adjustment very far for it to play up. It is possible for the dog to seize, but unlikely, unless the transfer has had water in over a period of time and the car not driven. Thing is its a very simple system and unless there is lots of noise of the metal kind not much can go wrong.

Just out of interest, is the CDL engaged indicator lamp on the instrument panel supposed to illuminate during the start-up check?Mine certainly doesn't.

No it doesn't. Only when the CDL internals are actually locked
