    Fuel Tank Pressure?

    Hi,

I've found that my fuel tank is building a lot of pressure and I'm wondering what the issue may be? I notice when I start the car there is a humming from the fuel tank. To stop this I turn off the D2 and then open the fuel cap which lets out a rush of gas, and then the noise stops.

Do you think I need to try replacing the gas tank cap, or is there another problem? There is a rubber ring around the filler opening which has a little tear on one side but I don't think this could be causing the issue - perhaps it's letting air in.

This is normal, your petrol isn't supposed to all evaporate away on a hot day so the cap has to hold the vapour pressure. The noise is the valve that lets vapour flow to the charcoal canister under the bonnet, to be burnt instead of escaping and adding to photochemical smog. If your petrol tank didn't hold pressure, water vapour would be able to get in at night and damage any metal parts, such as the pump.

Okay, thanks. These Discoveries do seem to make a ton of odd noises at times.

They do make more noises than my Disco 1 TDI used to... from memory anyway.
I keep meaning to check my SLS bags as every time I stop and get out I can hear the rear hissing a little... I think only because I have a trailer attached all the time...
Maybe something to check over Christmas..
