    285 75 16

    Hi everyone.

Im considering running 285 75 16's on the d2. Ive searched all the pros and cons but wanted to ask those who have run them if they get hasseled by the authorities. During random rbt or licence checks or just for being pulled over for speeding.
Ive got 4 inch lift, winch bar and camel cut. Im currently running 275 70 16 but i can get 285's for a great price.

    Thanks.
    Michael.

I have not had any issues.

If you already have a 4" lift you've already got something that they may pick you up on, so running the larger tyres probably won't put you much worse off...

    Thanks guys.
I purchased some 16x8 p38 alloys yesterday so im im going to put the 285s on them. How does the disco drive with the 33s?
Does it want to follow grooves in the road anf did you notice much of a power loss?
    Regards.
    Michael.

Michael, I'd suggest you consider some aftermarket wheels with more offset for the larger tyres. With the standard offset wheels your going to have a reduced turning circle and rubbing on the arms. +30mm is sufficient enough.

The vehicle will also be much nicer once you gear it appropriately for the tyre change. Automatics handle the change a bit better than the manuals too from what I am told.

Twr7xc thanks for that. Ive got tru tracs in the front and rear diffs so i would probably wait a little while before getting 4.11:1's. The other thing is if i have to go back to smaller wheels because the authorities say so i will be regretting the ratio change. The car is my daily driver. I travel about 180 klms a day about 95% highway.
Do the tyres only just touch the control arms or do they hit very firmly. Unfortunately my car is at mr automotive getting a new auto rebuilt so i cant trial fit them until next week when i get it back.

Even more reason to change the ratio if your driving it so much! I found highway speeds so much easier to maintain with the correct ratio.

They'll definately hit the arms. You'll need to space out the stoppers to prevent this.

I run 1 washer behind each steering bumpstop with the small spec bumpstops and they dont touch anything. Mine only touched very lightly on the radius arms I think on one side IIRC without the washers. This is with P38 16x8 rims and 285/75-16
