Sometimes I wish the landy wasn't so capable and comfortable to drive!!! (because I'd sell it!!)
My new problem is that after a 100km round trip from Busselton (WA) to Margaret River and return the landy decided to spew a nice puddle of ATF fluid onto the inlaws brand new driveway whilst idling for 15 minutes. (I know, why did I park a landrover on a new driveway!!I should know better)
Now after I cleaned up all the ATF along the underneath of the vehicle I have found that it is leaking from the union of the coolant pipe to the underneath of the transmission (just behind the bell housing). I am guessing this is the return line??
Tried tightening, didn't work, pulled pipe out, checked o-ring was there, put back together, still leaked.. thought o-ring might be hardened, pulled apart again, had a good close look at the connections and all appear to be pretty good, put in a new o-ring I had laying around and yep, you guessed it, it still leaks.
And is a good leak, not just weaping. If left to idle, it will leave a 30cm diameter puddle of ATF on a driveway in 20 minutes!!
I can't see anything obvious which would give reason to this sort of leak all of a sudden occurring..
My only thought is maybe the pipe is cracked just where the o-ring sits, as I can't clearly see this part whilst it is still under the car.
Any ideas?? anyone experienced this before??

Has the photo worked??? The small droplet of ATF clinging to the pipe becomes a constant heavy drip while car running.... Just using this photo to show where it is.. The rest all look as they should (from what I can see while pipe still attached to car).
Think tomorrow I will have to remove the wholepipe to have a closer look.

Going to make an unpleasant suggestion it is the gasket between the front cover and main body.

Are you sure its coming from that pipe and not from some where higher? Its common to get an oil leak from the trans pump housing. This can leak from where the transmission bolts to the bellhousing. This leak runs down onto the steel pipe.

What Strangy saying is the same area ive said. If you look at the section of transmission where the bell housing bolts to the trans you will notice its only a section about 80-100 mm wide. This is the pump. The closest end to the trans there is a gasket that leaks and the other end where it bolts to the bell housing has a large o ring. This leaks too. Either way its a transmission out if the leaks coming from there.

have a closer look at where the nut goes over the end, I've seen one (not on a landy so Im reaching in the hope that its not a trans remove job) crack the pipe just past the end of the flare from the nut scraping the pipe during removal and installation creating a weak point that vibration eventually tuns from a scratch to a crack to a leak.
But I've a feeling its the pump plate gasket.

As per new photo I am feeling lucky as it is coming directly out along the pipe past the nut. Yes there is a bit of dampness on the mating services but it is a land rover![]()
Maybe the O ring has gone hard ..try a smear of high temp sealant around the O ring for now until you get a new one..
Ok, I think the prize goes to Big O as some high temp silicone over the original o-ring has temporarily fixed the problem. So, does anyone know the best place to get a new one and/or the part number for the o-ring?
