But think that if you live in NSW as the OP does I don't think you can get RACQ Ultimate .

NRMA Premium is only 100km in remote areas. However:

"If you break down over 100km from home and your car is going to take more than 24 hours to fix, we will organise and cover up to $3,000 towards the cost of:
    • Accommodation,
    • Car rental,
    • Passenger transport,
    • Car transport"

It is the last dot point that may get you home if you live within $3000 worth + 100km of towing from the breakdown point.

Well, I've belatedly got around to posting an update - thanks to everyone for your advise and support. In the end, I bit the bullet, hired a trailer and borrowed a land cruiser ( I know...., I had to swallow my pride!) and towed it back to Newcastle. Took it to 4x4 spares at kotara, who I was lead to believe were the "experts" locally. After a quick look, they've said it's definitely blown a head gasket, probably cracked the head, buggered the injectors and prob popped a ring or two!! They say it needs a replacement engine - total repair bill....... Wait for it......$15000!!!😥
Anyone suggest another mechanic capable of such a job locally? Anyone have an experience of Modern Motors at Dungog?

Did they also offer to take it off your hands for a small price??
Was that a new engine, or one of the 3 good used ones they are currently showing in stock?

So what does the other $10grand or so cover? Surely not labour just to take the old engine out and put the new one in.

I did my apprenticeship there many years ago, Murray was always honest. Worked with Ben at Paul Skews Land Rover, Very knowledgeable on LR product. Some of the mechanics still work there when I did. You wont have any issues with them.

Be prepared for a cracked head, but they will be able to quote with or with a head.

    Hi Sames1972

What on earth was the question you asked them!!!!???

For that price I'm sure that you could fit a fully reconditioned engine, ---- here in Tasmania !

Then go home with change in your pocket.

And you would get to trip around Tassie while the engine was being fitted.
