Engine is now in Perth, just have to pay duties. It's cost me more than expected, the engine has set me back around $10.6k landed with duties. I just hope it works when fitted. The exchange rate was a killer.

Have also bought new cooling system; hoses, thermostat, cap, radiator, new pump fitted by Turners to the long block.

A mates dad (a mechanic) will help me put it in.

Once I drive the car to shop, we can send the ecu over to M Adams for the remap. Just hope its all worth it in the end and doesnt give me grief!

there is a post in here somewhere about the proper V8 to ZF mating procedure.
I used this for the first 1k

    yes you will need two.
Find out how to achieve oil pressure before the "first start-cam break-in".
If you DONT want the engine to run at 96,, nows the time to change,, not( like me) afterwoods

also do a quick check on this,, LF3487.
    around $35 but cheap insurance

    Updates:

Waiting on extreme outback clutch, engine mounts, computer (will be dispatched from UK today), idler pulley, injectors to be serviced.

Condenser, oil coolers and rad were chockers full of mud, prob bulk of the problem.

Engine is together just waiting on some bits before it goes back in. Will put some pics up soon.

Bought new UJs and center bearing to rebuild the shafts.

Its a bit over budget, I'm at 13.6k already without labour or consumables yet. I keep telling myself its still cheaper than a new car or a second had 4wd. So the excavator I was saving to get for the property will have to wait.

Atleast everything will be fresh and reliable (fingers crossed).

Noticed the collector on the manifold is quite small, will run with standard exhaust first, then put extractors in to see of they make a difference.

After waiting nearly 2 weeks the clutch finally arrived. So the motor will finally be going back in.

    Finished rebuilding the driveshafts.

Computer is back from Mark Adams, what a genuinely nice guy! I organised my delivery and pick up so no hassles at all.

Just need to fit new bias plate when motor and tranny are mounted back in.

Just keen to have it back. Then it will be on the panel work.

Marl found there are 3 outstanding recalls on my car. Do you guys know what the rules are for recalls and how long you have before the dealership wont touch it?

Me too! Ive been running around in a toyota echo, even the ol low comp 4 would have felt much better . Want to chuck it on a dyno to see how it compares to factory 4.6 specs once it has been run in.

As far as I know serious, eg, items that can affect the road worthiness of the vehicle and/or life threatening have no expiry , lesser stuff does. Check the recall thread at the top of the page.

Cheers schuy I'll just call them and see what they say.

Finally picked up the car today, well I drove it on Saturday for a few minutes after putting in the bias plate and springs (which I reinforced by welding the cut marks on the folded piece). I've driven it about 90kms today with the old engine and the old parts still in the back .

First thing I noticed on start up, takes half a second to a second longer to crank (will check for earth issues, but could just be what it needs), the tone is much lower, and it has a little rhythm from the h180 cam (nothing lumpy like a roller cam), but noticeable especially over the old motor.

I must say I'm pretty impressed, it just goes pretty much in any gear. I've gradually stepped on it in second and third, and the response is quite impressive (as far as a 3 ton car goes, but it definitely makes the old motor feel like it was short a few cylinders). I actually had butterflies, and no I'm not saying its super car fast, but definitely much more punch than it did before.

On the freeway in 5th, no hesitation with light throttle input to just start going almost straight away. Much better response than the old engine. In 2nd and 3rd from starting from around 1500 when you put your foot down she knuckles down and starts pulling, the biggest change is that now it just keeps pulling harder as you go through 2k-3.5k.

Will continue to run it in for another 900kms, not keen to load her up full throttle, I've gone as far down as half throttle in 2nd and 3rd coming on it smooth rather than dumping it. Although the response feels like you've just dumped it. I've got 98 unleaded in it and no problems so far, everything's functioning really well. The alternator is noisy though, well it has been for a while, mud sure didn't do it any favours.

Overall just feels so much better and easier to drive.

Just need to hand in the engine change form .

Happy customer, not having driven the 4.6 without Mark Adam's chip, I can't really comment on over and above performance from std, but it definitely feels like everything is working very well, that 'hole' he so often speaks on the factory maps has disappeared. The car just keeps accelerating through that rev range. Feels pretty bloody wicked, first time I've had butterflies in the disco, without nearly rolling her over in low gear.

Will prob put it on the dyno after a few thousand kms, just to see what the performance actually is, compared to factory specs.
