    Diff locking problems

howdy guys, I am wondering if anybody else has encountered an issue with a spring or linkage coming off at the selector gear stick for high/low range. I tried to use mine in '4x4' (i know they are constant) but it wont engage. it is not like it is stiff to get in, it just wont stay in. the lever is as easy to move as normal. It just wont lock in and stay in. if that makes any sense? I am hopeless at explaining things. Ive had it in '4x4' several times since i bought it no worries. I am going to pull the boot of and then investigate everywhere i can to get to the bottom of it. I need to fix it pronto as i wish to use my 4wd as god intended it to be used! and the fact its not engaging has me most frustrated LOL! So if anyone has experienced similar before, please point me in the right direction.

    thank you in advance

I have had mine pop out of low on the odd occasion.

What I started to do, is when moving off, keep my hand on the lever, and I sometimes would feel it move back just that tiny bit & it was good from then on.

So your right in thinking there must be some way for it to "lock" into place.

Cant help much more than that, sorry.

When I owned a D2, mine had a habit of disengaging too. I learnt to do the same thing. You could definitely feel it lock into place with a little pressure on the lever.

I wish that would fix mine haha.i just need new tyres, plus fix oil leak and manifold broken studs but that's both at same time, then there is this diff lock issue. I tried it whilst rolling on the day. It isnt that it wont go in it does it just slips right out. Like a mechanism is missing that would lock it in position.

I need 2 new rears too... My oil leak was fixed last service.

Can't help you with the diff issue... I'm not the mechanical type...

yeah rolling didn't make a difference. Basically, it slots in the gate/s (H & L, rolling or stationary) but it won't stay in there ... I don't think it will quite go far enough as the light on the dash doesn't come on. There's nothing obvious from underneath (is there dragon ) and it still drives normally without the diff lock. I think next step will be to take the boot off and see if anything is obvious from above ... hopefully it's nothing catastrophic!

Yep you explained it better than me wingman haha! But it works as normal today. Took boot off and nothing out of ordinary. And now it goes in and stays in? I changed the worn old boot to thr new one. Maybe it just wanted me to change the boot haha
