    Fitting EGT probe TD5

    Hello,
Just fitted a EGT on my TD5. Drilled a hole tapped it just before the flange of the turbo on the manifold. A couple of things is that when the engine is cold tick over is about 170C to 190C no problems driving around town hard take goes to about 500C very quick but drops as quick.
Now when the engine is normal operating temp sitting at the lights it reads 280C to 330C. On slowing down it will flash 190C or there about's then return to 280C. I am thinking that it is reading the manifold temp ?? Then hard take flat out will very easy reach 750C and beyond. Sitting on the freeway 100 K's 370C boost around 15 psi.
Can you insulate the probe from the manifold ??

    Thanks
    Ian

    Something isn't right.

I have mine on the manafold before the turbo also.
Let it sit over night and it should read a similar temp to the EXT temp on the A/C controls. Then start it up and after a few min of idle it should be around 110c.

The rest is dependent on the way you drive and the type of tune you have.

Some say that it's a bad spot due flames hitting the probe from combustion.

Good way to test the probe is to put it in boiling water (tip only) it should read around 100c

    Hello Mick,
Thanks, yes it does read the same as the ambient air temp in the morning. The tune is maybe a bit high I have a different one which I might load on today. I have had the car running like this for about a year no problems. Was thinking it could be the timing as the head has only been back on for about couple of months. The Pins line up I could have slightly advanced it a bit to much ??
