OK so I know what I said about the sizes, I'm dead set on 265/75/16,s .

Now I'm in a tis about what make and tread. Which would you go for?

BF Goodrich - from the internet, new and very cheap
    Bridgestone 673- bob Jane
    Roadstones - tyrepower
Federal couragia - through a mates work (dealership)

All between $175-250 a piece. I'd love to go for the top brands but I'm not made of money!

How come you went off the idea of Maxxis Big Horns?

I have a set of them, they are pretty good off road - I cant say they are the absolute best but they are good.
I also have a set of Bridgestone AT 694's in standard size that I use if I'm going to be predominantly highway but are fine for all but the gnarliest 4WDriving.
I'm lucky to have the two sets of wheels I can swap between, I wouldnt say either is better than the other, they just do what they are designed for well
Bridgies for road - nice and quiet handle well enough
Big Horns for proper 4WDriving - but noisy on the road and less road manners than AT's
    Hope that helps
    Cheers / Andy

I went off the idea of the big horns purely because of the price. I only bought the truck 2 weeks ago (hence no money) and am itching to drive it but cant because the current tyres are illegal!
I don't have the luxury of two sets of wheels and I have been caught out before in the mud more than once in my old truck, so id like to try some M/Ts to see how i get on.

Get a set of 245/75R16 Bridgestone Dueler MT's. They are legal, will not rub anywhere and won't strain the drive train too much. The speedo will also still be within reasonable tolerance.

265's will need some steering adjustment, they'll put a bigger load on your drive train and will also slow you down. As for legalities, maybe the police won't do much if you put on oversized tyres, but when you have an accident you will be personally liable for damage. Maybe you want to bet your house on that?

Having run the bighorns in 265/75/16s previosuly they were great for just over a year and then got uneven and extremely noisy on the road, made my car vibrate like all hell.
They were the first style the 762s. The 764s are aparently quieter. But havent run them as I was turned off them.

Im now running the kumho kl71s if you can find them for a good price they are a slightly softer tyre and a directional muddy but super quiet on road and handle brilliantly. Only catch is you need a non directional tyre as a spare. A cheap second hand cooper stt are easy to find.

Just thought id let everyone know how i was getting on. its been a while and ive had the disco on the road for about a month now.

I fitted BFG Mudddies and had no problem with steering clearance or arch clearance as people had told me. The only thing i have had to do is invert the wheel carrier on the tailgate.

The tyres are surprisingly quiet, thank you for all your help!
