I think PhilipA has got it. TD5s are known for a resonance type vibration at that 2200-2250 RPM area.
There is a thread started by a Scandinavian fellow on this forum about curing the Td5 vibration, I don't know if he got the advice that PhilipA has provided here.
G'day all.
I took the Disco for a run on the freeway this morning to try to pin point the vibration at 105-120km/h. I tried getting up to speed and engaging clutch, vibration there until speed dropped below 110. The same result was obtained when put into neutral, T/C in neutral, engine off and handbrake slightly pulled. Rev the TD5 in neutral, stopped, it's as smooth as a TD5 can be.
So, I'm thinking driveshaft imbalance, wheel balance out. It does not seem from these findings flywheel, clutch or G/box related.
Thoughts.....?

It may well have thrown off a wheel or tailshaft balance weight

There is a TB on RAVE titled "Driveline Noise/Vibration at 65MPH (105km/h) and above" (ref number: L8667bu)
The check items are:
- Wheel Balance and Damage
- Prop shaft wear or damage
- runout of the handbrake drum
- runout of the transfer gearbox front output flange
- runout of the differential input drive flanges.
It might be worth having a look through, although you'll need a dial gauge and magnetic stand to do the checks.
cheers

Ok. Yesterday I pulled the rear shaft and handbrake drum. Nothing seemed untoward. The uni is fine, and has a new spigot bush. I'm getting it balanced while its off. Inside the handbrake drum was very dusty but everything was where it should be. The fork at the top seemed very loose though. No leaks. Cleaned drum and blew out the dust. Locked CDL and there was a lot of free play until it started to drive the front shaft. Is what I have found here normal?
When I get the shaft back I'll take it for another run.
Thoughts?
