Exclamation Niggling issues with my D2a. An update.

G'day all and happy new years eve!
Well yesterday and today I spent some quality time under the Disco replacing the engine mounts (were totally stuffed) the two gearbox mounts and the rotoflex coupling + bush/seal on the rear shaft. All these components are the originals and were in need of replacing. But my main reason for the changeout is because I'm chasing a high speed vibration that comes on at 105-110 km/h on the freeway. It's an....off....on....off....on type of a vibration. It's not through the steering wheel and you can feel it through the whole car. Unfortunately these new parts have not cured this vibration. It has only surfaced after 3 years of towing our 23ft van. Could there be some mechanical damage done to the R380 or transfer?. It's just had a rebuilt and balanced front shaft also. Could it be an issue in the handbrake drum?. I'd love to get it sorted before our next time away. Would a run on a dyno possibly highlight the issue? Ps: the car has 89500km and only gets driven on weekends or trips away as I have a work ute.
    Any feedback welcome.
    Regards
    Robbo.

G'day Robbo, I know this is going to sound basic but have you had the wheels balanced to zero?

When the wheels were rotated did the pressures get reset correctly?

    Hi Robbo

Have you checked the double cardon joint??
The uni's in the joint don't have grease nipples
( unless they have been changed )
And usually fails because the drain point for the air conditioner drains directly onto the cardon joint.

    In extreme cases of failure
The transfer box front seal and bearing fails along with the front diff bearing and seal.

    Cheers

    Steve

    Thanks Steve
Yep, front shaft new with greaseable joints. Starting to think gearbox/transfer.

You can remove the front shaft and drive it without to at least eliminate that as a possibility. So long as you lock the CDL.
It would be ok for a test drive. I drove 2000km in a month around town and hills w/o the front shaft in while waiting for my Tom Woods shaft to arrive. 1yr later there have been no problems caused by doing that.

If you drop from D to 3 once I starts the vibration does it go away? Mine is doing the same thing only just started at 120000km. Very frustrating.

If I drop from D to 3 goes away when engine revs go up from around the 2200rpm mark.

There is a well known problem with the handbrake shoes vibrating in sympathy with a TD5 harmonic at 2200RPM.

The shoes wear into the back plate so the shoe retaining spring tension reduces and the harmonic vibration increases over time.

There is an official Land Rover fix of stronger springs but IMHO you have to either buy a new backplate and shoes or weld up the grooves first and fit new shows.
I posted a picture about a month ago in D2.
Mine was more noticable at 60kmh at 2200 RPM, but there at 105 also.
    Regards Philip A
