Winch bull bar dilemmas for D2a

Hi everybody, I am new to the forum and I have just bought a TD5 D2a for which I am very excited.
This vehicle has no bull bar fitted and I have been doing a lot of searching for answers as to what bar I can get for this vehicle.
I have just spent the past few days searching the Aulro forums to find the answers I need but No luck yet.
I have sourced a second hand ARB bar for a reasonable price but it is a non winch bar. Is it possible to modify this bar to take a winch?
The manufacturers don't let much information out.
The other option I have is to buy a MCC Falcon winch bar new but this option would double my cost, alternatively buy a new ARB Deluxe bar for $400 more.
Apparently ARB will only manufacture these bars on a 10 piece order basis..?
The other thing is I have a TJM winch bar on my old Disco but it is not airbag compatible.
If anyone has any other options or ideas to share I would be most grateful. Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum and the world of the D2...Have a look at the Xrox bar they hold a 12000lb Warn winch, they are airbag compliant and I prefer them to the ARB one. Joe

If you want to sell the ARB bar to get a winch one, let me know please...

As long as it's to suit a D2a with fog lights.

isn't the only real difference between airbag compatible bars the use of the crush cans on the mount?

you might be able to modify the mounts of the bar from the older disco and make them suit the crush cans, as long as there isn't to much difference in the width and it fits around the lights

Most compatible bars do not use the cans, the bar is designed to "crush" and activate the airbag. The weight and design of the bar changes the load on the standard crush can...Joe

Thanks guys for the thoughts and Tony for the pics, so I guess the crush cans etc are designed to fold up under a certain pressure?
The Xrox sure does look the part but I really want full frontal protection as I spend a lot of time in Central Qld where roos are very abundant.
Would hitting a roo activate the air bags? That would not be cool.

@Brougham, I have not yet purchased the ARB bar as I am trying to ascertain whether or not I can fit a winch to that bar using a chassis mounted cradle or if the standard/ Deluxe bar are any different besides the cutout for the winch assy.

I do however have a TJM winch bar that is on my old Disco which is mounted directly to the chassis rails. Is there any reason I couldn't use that bar if I could get hold of some crush cans?
As Joe mentioned you would need to get hold of ones that are designed to take a bull bar.
I am also a bit dubious about how you would go winching yourself out of a bog hole with all that weight dragging only onto the crush cans.

I have a D1 and after a bit of searching the only options were Xrox, MCC or Outback Accessories Premium, all are winch compatable, I believe it is the same for D2a's. Ended up ordering the Outback one, it had the headlight protection that the Xrox lacked,

Are you sure the bar you are looking at is for a D2a?

Both the ARB bars for the D2a are winch compatable, Deluxe Bar

    & Sahara Bar

Note the fog lights, these are D2a bars, these are supplied with new ARB designed crush cans to replace the factory ones.

If it is for a D2, there is a winch bar and non-winch bar, neither have fog lights. These are supplied with new ARB designed crushcans to replace the factory ones.

Then there are the two model D1 bars, both are winch compatable, but one is for non-SRS Discos, and the other one is for SRS Discos.

My guess is you are looking at a D2 bar

If it is second hand ask where the ARB crush can are for it.

As far as buying new you should be able to get a D2a Deluxe bar supply only in black for $1600.
