There are specific products around that can be used to polish windscreens..Some detailers will do the job for you.. at a price of course.
It all depends on where the scratches are as to the effect they will have on registration etc.
A couple of months ago I scratched my windscreen while using some green scotchbrite to clean off some particularly gooey tree sap - here a couple of lessons learned.
1. Scotchbrite WILL scratch your windscreen!
2. Toothpaste and Brasso will have little or no effect.
3. Cerium Oxide powder is used to polish stones but you need the skills and equipment to use it properly - a polishing pad on a Dremel is not the right equipment.
4. Although unsightly, the scratches have weathered with time and are a lot less obvious than they were originally.

I regularly use a good quality soft car polish on all my windows. Never leaves scratches. Makes the glass look great and wipers sweep perfectly.
Sent from my Motorola RAZR XT925
You can also use a hood quality Canubra wax on the windscreen.
There are also some very good specialist sealants that work much better than Rainex but they are more suited to application by specialist detailers.
My customers dont normally want to spend the money on treating the glass unless they go for a full Protection System.
Another good thing to do is to Clay Bar the windscreen.
I scratched the windscreen in my Rodeo years ago. I did it when cleaning the inside with a paper towel.
I couldn't believe it.
I found the best cure was a stray rock a little while later.
I have used car polish swirl remover to clean some particularly stubborn grime off car glass before. Worked well with no scratching.
CHEMTECH TRUCK WASH use neat on a sponge, wipe the windscreen with it, do it late arvo out in the shade, leave over night then next morning hose off, then rub your finger over it and hear the squeak of squeaky clean, it really removes all grime
Surprisingly enough wd40 or crc will take of most stickey adhesives.
Cheers

I use Autoglym Glass Polish. Good results and easy to apply, plus has a nice smell![]()
