what is the purpose of the keyhole in the front drivers door?

I would like a key that locks and opens the D2 doors for when I go to the beach. It does not have to activate the alarm or start the engine, just get me in and out of the car.

I got a key cut but it did not turn in the lock. Then I tried my original LandRover key - which I probably should have done first. My LandRover key also would not turn in the lock.

Why does my D2 have a door lock if the keys supplied do not operate it?

Maybe your steering lock barrel has been replaced at some stage. Failure of the steering lock / ignition barrel is a common fault with D2's.

I have a matching DS door lock, ignition lock and two keys out of my wrecked D2. PM me if you're interested. The drivers door handle and lock assembly is held in by one single torx screw from the back face of the door, dead easy to remove. You could get yours rekeyed by a locksmith or just replace it with another.

Well that is an embarrassingly simple answer to my conundrum.

its probably seized because it has never been used. (very common) Try spraying inox or similar in it and keep trying.

As mentioned, at some point your Disco has had a new ignition lock assembly fitted and as you have a remote, its not really needed.

Also unlocking the door with a key on a D2, you generally arent quick enough to get it in the ignition to beat the alarm going off. The horns on a D2 in a car park are quite loud!!

Also, if you lock the door with the key it doesn't activate the internal sensors. I use it if I leave the window open a little when it's hot so the alarm doesn't go off.

Also if you have access to a Nanocom or similar you can set it so turning the key disables the car alarm I.e. the same as using the remote

    And the winner is……. Woko.

The lock was seized. Well not even the lock it was more like the face plate on the outside of the lock. I squirted a bit of Liquid Mol at it, I could not get any down the lock as it had the cover over it. I put the newly cut key in and after a quick left right it worked.

But it is never that simple…
The newly cut key that cost $8 from master mint works perfectly every time. The original key from which the new one was cut will not turn in the lock. Not really a problem as I only want the key for when I got to the beach.

Also, When the door is locked with the key the indicators flash once and then red light on the console flashes slowly. What does this mean?
When I lock the door with the remote the indicators flash 3 times and then the red light on the console flashes slowly. Does the key activate the alarm the same as the fob?

Yes the key locking activates the alarm. Fob locking activates the alarm AND the motion sensors inside , 1 located above passenger door and the rear above the right rear window. If you leave a sunroof open or an animal in the car( Which you SHOULD NOT do for any length of time) lock with the key otherwise any movement, even air / breeze in the open sunroof will set off the alarms!

    Cheers Scott
