steering damper
hi all just outlaid for a complete suspension for the disco (ended up going dobinsons springs and bilstein shocks) but have relised that no thought has been given to the damper from past experience I know the wrong one can change the car for the worse what are the best options and suppliers for the new one. chris

I use a Tough Dog return to centre type with 2" lift king springs. I did have Bilsteins all around but changed the rear to 9Way Adjustable tough dogs and am very happy with being able to stiffen the rear when towing the offroad camper and soften up for around town or other terrain.
The return to centre type steering damper is great on corrugations and I don't get the kick back any where as much when offroad. Does make steering a little heavier when slow working, parking , etc but not enough to cause an issue, just got used to it.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Jack

I also have a tough dog return to centre damper. I run a 2 inch spring and 2 inch body lift. I find it has a slight wobble in the steering but I'm not certain the dampers causing that. It's been smashed into a few rocks but hasn't failed yet.

heavy steering will be no issue as one of my other cars is an xb 351 manual steer with 8" rims on the front. power steering for this is directly related to arm size

I used to call my V8 XB coupe (with 245's all round) a muscle car, as that is what you needed to steer it. (Had a steel roo bar on the front also).
