Front Diff wobble & vibration on overrun & whine.

Tracking down a severe vibration in the overrun after fitting a new driveshaft after the last one disappeared into the scrub.

Noticed that the flange that comes out of the rear diff can be moved a bit (with clunk) up and down, and a smidge to the left and right.

    Assume this is not normal...?

Driveshaft is smooth all times, except the overrun above 80kmh. And there's a moderately high pitched beating resonant whine I'd never heard before coming from the front under power only above 100kmh and only appearing after driving for about 15 mins.

This is on the front diff? If you can move the flange is it the flange that moves only? It may be loose, check the nut securing to the pinion. If it is the flange and the pinion moving as 1 it may be bearings, which will account for the noise.Noise and vibration on over run does suggest that. The problem with the front shaft may have started it off Is it leaking oil? Is there oil in the diff?

Two steps fwd, one step back.

Took the propshaft off tonight. The bolt was loose into the seal on the back of the diff. Tightened it up and no vibration in the overrun...

But now there's a slight vibration under power at 100kmh...

Bugger! How slight? I understand yoou can feel it over all the other vibes from a hard launching landrover, but degrees of? After attaining desired warp is it present at all?. Maybe let it go for a little while and keep an eye on it for leaks and such like.

I have noticed with mine a slight what seems to be a harmonic drive train vibration at 100kmh over the years, fine at 110.

It's not shuddering but definitely noticeable. Wasn't there before, was silky smooth.

Going to take off again to investigate

I noticed with two different original shafts that there was a vibration at a certain road speed. With the Woods shaft it's fine right through to 130k's
