    td5 auto changes from 1 to 2 around 3000rpm

    Hello All
my Disco 2 td5 automatic (year 2002) started to change around 3krpm from 1 to 2. Firts it happened only when she was cold. I changed the oil and filter already 2 times, the problem still exist but now also when the engine is hot.
Fortunatelly it is not so often (today I drove about 3 hours and it has happened only 3-4 times and around 2700rpm), otherwise the car is running good, the box changes very fine.
There is no M/s or MIL light flashing. The stall test is also ok.
Does anyone has any idea, experience?

I think when Tdi auto boxes do that it is a governor issue. A search of the site should find something.

Your MAF is the likely culprit, having strong influence on the behavior of the box...

MAF has changed already for a new one a few weeks ago. Before my car had issues with "no power after starting", which has solved.

I guess you question the oil change...
First I changed the filter with oil (about 5.5l came off) and few 100kms later, 2nd time only oil (again about 5 liters).

I actually was 2nding tombie's diagnosis . But oki, yes 5l is about correct perchange, waht was the oils condition? A full oil change for them is about 3 changes as you can only get 5 per change out and the best is do 3 and dilute the old with enough new!
Next Q has to be, did this behavior start before or after the new MAF? Is the new 1 genuine or not? have you noticed the shift position display not displaying correctly at all? Both in the dash and on the console. This is related to the XYZ switch.
Another point to look at is where the harness passes over the transfer case( Thanks to justinc for that 1) It can rub and short.
    Cheers Scott

The oil is still a bit brown after the 2nd change.
The problem started after the MAF change (but not right after). The MAF what I used is not a genuine one, it is a VDO.
What you mean on shift position display? It is dsplaying D....

I would be attaching a diagnostic unit and getting some MAF readings...
