I Replaced the windscreen intake plenum

Yesterday I replaced the windscreen air intake plenum ( mine was broken in 4 places) After removing the pillar finishers and sizing up the job, I could see no reason of how one can remove it without taking the bonnet off. I've heard of replacement windscreen fitters doing it without taking the bonnet off to replace windscreens .Probably explains why some get broken.
With the bonnet propped up on its rod I removed the 4 bolts holding the bonnet to the hinges. The alloy bonnet is light in weight, so gently let the ends rest propped up. I then unpropped it and slid it forward about 30 cm and let it lay over the engine compartment. Fitted the new plenum and refitted the bonnet. I did this single handed and the time to undo and refit bonnet took all of 10 mins. So I can't understand why a windscreen fitter would not take the precaution and remove the bonnet

Very good Now I assume you are minus your first born and some appendages in paying for it! I spoke to my windscreen guy about doing a screen and he said that the bonnet has to come off, and I did not even have to tell him! Just he said its fiddly to have to do all that just for a screen . But that is what makes 'rovers different {and maybe better? )

Mario, your comments x2. Been there done that. Both replacing the plenum and having it smashed by a windscreen joint.

The job is pretty quick all up.

Just went through this process recently. Even told the insurance company that the bonnet would have to come off or the plenum would break.

But no ... the guy broke every clip and even cracked it through in one place. Tried to glue it back together in the hope that I wouldn't notice.

Water leaking into the passenger foot-well was a give away that something wasn't right.

A week later with a new plenum from LR and a another windscreen guy, the bonnet was off and all repaired ... all paid for by insurance and some inconvenience.

Still not right though ... the new plenum doesn't sit on the glass properly. I can only assume cause it's not genuine glass.

The plenum has some small tabs on it which hook under the windersreen to pull it in. These are potentially sitting on top and not under.

Only if it is really bugging you do this yourself as you would be wasting your time getting anone else to do.

Pretty sure you have to take the A-Pillar covers off as well and these have a limited life span with regards to remove and replace so purchase some silastic prior to starting. I think you will find they are currently stuck on with silastic if you look.

It's a remove and replace job but a simple one.

    Regards
    Andrew

your right Andrew about the 4 plastic tabs that fit under the windscreen bottom, I'd imagine they would be pretty prone to breaking if you tried to fit them with bonnet on . The right side pillar trim will get the silastic treatment.
The innet door frame pillar rivets are a one use only item, after you push the dowel through to release them.
