Approx value of 2001 D2
G'day guys,
I've never found myself in these parts before but I've ventured over from the Defender world to do some research on a friend's behalf and am hoping you can help me.
He's looking at buying himself a Disco and has found an example from 2001. It's on gas, has about 230K on the clock, and is in immaculate condition from what he can see so far.
I know this could be awkward if it belongs to someone on here, but as he and I both know nothing about this model I'm wondering if you could please fill me in on what might be a reasonable price to pay.
Any advice at all will be appreciated.
Cheers,
James

G'day james, I've just bought a 99 discovery td5 with 170 k on the clock. The car is immaculate ,with loads of extras on it.Three inch lift, larger tyres with plenty of tread, bullbar, snorkel, cargo barrier, roof rack, shelves in rear,55 litre water tank, ecu was remapped etc.. The previous owner hadn't spared any expenses.I had been looking for months to find a good one.I paid $7500 for it.Hope this gives you a rough idea cheers mark

Hi,
You can find all the issues these models face is covered in the Stickys and Good Oil.
Ask if the owner is on the forum.
Then have a look at the owners posts about issues experienced and the solution or fix applied. If any.
This will give you solid background to work with. If the owner hasn't posted any issues then you at least have list of questions to ask.
All D2's and D2a's are getting old in motoring terms and in my opinion all the issues found in the GoodOil and "Buying a D2 "sticky" are essential items which must have, or need to be, addressed.Along with all due dilligence buying a car this age.
A few forumites have ignored advice and information from here and paid significantly for that decision.
Also IMO D2 vehicles where owners are asking premium prices, still carrying any of these faults are usually not well cared for and I would tend to question how well the vehicle has actually been maintained as opposed to keeping up oil changes. How much? Start at Redbook then add 1/2 of new price of the accessories fitted which will give you a guide. Compare against other examples.
Don't pay extra for shoddy mods or installation of accessories particularly wiring , as these usually require full removal and reinstallation correctly if done poorly in the first instance.
For me, Suspension more than 100 thousand Kms old doesn't warrant an addition to sale price. Unless of course you start talking specialty multi link or custom component set ups beyond the usual spring and shock combo.
Most importantly Have fun
