Thread: red coolant leaking everywhere

Mine do as well. Not so bad with proper hose clamps though. Bunnings sell 2 different types the ones in the Garden section then stainless ones in the plumbing section. The stainless ones come in 2 grades. Marine and something else. The something else, cheaper than marine grade seem pretty good to me.

Mine also leaks from the drain plug. I have replaces the seal/washer, used thread tap, used locktite thread sealant. Nothing has worked yet.

Get a low water alarm, mount it just below the centre seam in the header tank and just top it up every 2 - 3 months. The alarm will go off from cornering first so you'll get plenty of early warning.

I marked the header tank and it is only losing about 1-1.5MM per month, although that might pick up when I am driving all the time.

I think it is a case of watch and top up if necessary. I think a lot of the oozing was from the time I towed the camper to Cabramurra on a 30+ day.
there is only one spot with a drop of wet coolant and that is below the water pump from the hose that goes across to the thermostat. The water pump vent is dry.
I may buy a new one of those and it is Land Rover original.

Umm, boys, leaking around a fitting or from a hose clamped end is a different kettle of fish to the coolant weeping / wicking from the ends of a hose core. For it to do that is not a result of failure of the clamp or the properties of the coolant. It is a sign of actual hose failure, specifically the hose lining that is in contact with the coolant.
Once that liner fails then the coolant and heat will commence to break down the reinforcement fibers and the outer rubber layer. It is then a short dash to a blown hose- overheating- blown motor-$ !!!!
For a hose to do that means A- an old perished hose or B- a poorly manufactured hose

I'm going to have a stab in the dark here and guess that the red coolant just stains the cotton that hangs out the end of the pipe. I doubt it actually weeps out the thread.
