I am looking at gettting a D2 TD5 7 seater. The one I looked at today was generally attractive, but after driving about ten kilometers, the three amigos - ABS, TC & HDC came on.
What exactly is likely to be the cause, and what is involved in fixing it?

Mine started a regular visit about six months after purchase. Nanocom told me shuttle valve switches.
I did option B which is a no cost labor only job(if you can do it yourself) and more than a year on no more omigos.
ABS Mod - LAND ROVER CLUB V.I.
Other than that possibly a wheel sensor.
Use this as a tool to get a big discount on on the price.
If it was shuttle switches and it went to a workshop it would probably cost in excess of $2K.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

On the good oil...
Have a look at these links for what could be the cause.
http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...ml#post1944659
http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...ms-remedy.html is the start link. Option b is a fix for 2 problems; 1 is a loose wire; the other is the faulty printed circuit board (PCissue.
Btw: option b does not fix faulty shuttle valve switches but a problem with the pcb based connections in the abs module. If the switches are faulty they need to be replaced.
Thanks for the references to the good oil etc. I was already aware of the things that could cause this, and to some extent the solutions.
What is not in the references, and what I was really looking for, is some sort of idea as to what the most likely fault is. Maybe I did not express this well.

you would need to plug it into a nanacom or similar as it could be a wheel sensor most likely the front or shuttle valve switches o wiring to the switches, I did the mod to the switch wiring about six years ago I think I was the first to try this and have had no more problems.
Apart from replacing all the speed sensors apart from left hand rear, and right hand one twice.
disco seriesII mods so far:-bullbar,hyd winch,
detriot locker, lsd front,C.D.L kit, chipped and bigger intercooler,2" lift, rock sliders, lsd in transfer case, modified auto trans.

Theres only a small number of parts in the system. The Valve Block, The Slabs computer, Sensors and leads, the hubs, and brakes. From what i have read and experienced most issues seem to end up at the sensors/leads, or the Valve block. There is some discussion on Brake Squeal, but I'm not convinced. Never seems the SLABS as the main problem either.
For the valve block there is a mountain of info on the common issue here, usually resulting in the Option B fix. For the sensors/leads, they are relatively simple to replace, but take care as the hub, which the sensor plugs into, plays its part as well in so far as the reluctor ring that the sensor measures the speed of, has been known to be the cause of intermittent signals.
As Stevo pointed out, a nano com or similar is necessary to refine the search, and then some spare hardware is useful to test theories.
Just be aware that many have spent considerable time chasing these issues around the car, so buying one with a known problem is a guarantee of some more money spent, and hours devoted.
cheers
Nick
I had the three amigos. I took the car to a Land Rover mechanic and they adivsed it was the shuttle valve switch and about $1200 to fix. (hooked up Autologic)
I then hit google and this website and discovered Option B. I completed Option B and have not seen the amigos since.
This was 4 or 5 years ago.
It was simple and cheap to repair.

Andrew
