    stung not by a bee

    hi all,

just want to share an experience re indep LR service on my D2. I will hold off judgement somewhat re my experience but keen to hear what others think of the hours charged for the job completed. its prob reflective of costs by others but just shows how expensive costs can be to do even simple jobs.

the total cost was of the service and to my surprise was over $2000. I dont want to go into all the details of what was done but the basics. I get the hourly rate is over $120 per hour again believe this to be the norm these days. what i do object is the hours on some things to complete the job.

power steering cluster hoses - 4hrs
    auto transmission hoses - 2.5hrs
fuel tank hose replacement, remove & refit tank - 4.75hrs
harmonic balancer remove refit - 2.0hrs

prob the one that surprised me the most was the tank removal and refit for new hoses. i do have a drawers system but does not need to be taken out and dont think it was as you can remove (slide top) the top and drawer to get access to fuel pump from above and the carpet is already cut for easier access. i would of thought 4hrs for me without an hoist possible but with a hoist how could it take over 4hrs to remove and refit. btw - fuel in the tank was less then a qtr full to assist with removal.

the power steering hose apparently requires radiator removed or raised hence the 4hrs for that one?

harmonic balancer not sure whats involved here?

appreciate some comments or similar experiences.

Around $1600-1700 in time - seems like a reasonable deal for the time taken.

Cant see what your issue is... They need to make money to keep their doors open too, and they all want a 'slice' of the salaries we all want as well.

Based on $2k and a workshop charge as mentioned I think you got away with it "about right"

power steering cluster hoses - 4hrs These arent the easiest things to do, then the system needs bleeding etc...
auto transmission hoses - 2.5hrs Anyone who has done these loathes the job!
fuel tank hose replacement, remove & refit tank - 4.75hrs Unbolting everything, lowering the tank, running new hose and refitting tank then testing could easily pull this much time.
harmonic balancer remove refit - 2.0hrs Accessing this area is a bitch! So about right..

They *may* have gilded the lily a little as a couple of jobs potentially have the same parts removed, (fan etc to access hoses) but not significantly enough to make much more than an hours difference.

Annangrove is an expensive place to live

I have to agree with the other though, that's about right, he does good work though, not very often you have to take the car back, usually does it right the first time.

Over 12 hours spent on a vehicle is one spot taken up in the workshop with 1 or 2 techs off other jobs for 2 days.

I'd say the pricing is not only spot on but cheaper than a lot of mobs would do it for.

    Cheers,
    Ben

The id of the person you are referring is suggested by your post , however I have never had work done there.
Just in their defence they are known to be expensive but stand by their work, and are known to fix any problems caused, including I understand replacing a TDV6 when ruined by an oil pump failure after timing belt change.
So I guess you have to take that into account also.

Sorry I didn't realise that it was another poster who made mention of a suburb.
