    SLS issues

I know that others have asked questions on this before but my SLS is playing up. I have noticed of late that it takes a while to level up and won't go into raised mode. Also the other day the sls warning light came on. It is not the light on the top right but according to rave it goes solid if there is a fault or flashes of the remote is pressed (I've never seen one of these remotes).
Both bags have been replaced in the last 14 months by me.
I have towed the camper trailer and now it is near the bump stops. The compressor runs for a short while but won't lift it even with no load.
Wa wondering if anyone has any ideas on whether it could be that the compressor is stuffed and if so what is the best way to replace it, ie whether there is an easy non genuine replacement or do I just get one through Karcraft

Sounds to me like the compressor is not working as it should.
It will shut down if the ecu thinks it has run for too long.
The compressor can be rebuilt if you are handy with tools. Hex keys are all you need. There are rivets that need to be replaced by screws on reassembly.
There is a guy in Scotland UK who supplies a piston ring kit, but the cylinder bore must be undamaged as it is Teflon coated.
I can find his ebay address if you are interested.

The rear should take 20 seconds to raise. Mine (a 1999) started to take about 30-40 seconds, so I thought time to replace before it died totally. I looked into repair kits, etc but thought for the peace of mind, I bit the bullet and bought a brand new Wabco compressor from the UK. I saved about $150 or so from getting it over there. I got 14 years out of the old one and thought that was pretty good, so thought I may as well get a new one. I do a little touring every so often so wanted the reliability of a new one as opposed to a reco unit. It took me an hour or so to fit it myself and I'm not that mechanical.

    Compressor

The original is a Wabco make.

If you are wanting to save a few bucks you can source a used
one from a Audi quite common that they have air suspension
and it's not a part that there is much call for in used Audi parts.

I had noticed if late it was a bit slow to inflate so it must be it. Unfortunately I don't have time to source one from the UK as it is my daily drive/work vehicle.

Yeah, mines a daily driver as well so I replaced it ASAP. It only took a little over a week (I think from memory as this was July last year) to arrive.

With a bit of fiddling you can fit the metal part of an old tubeless tyre valve to the centre solenoid valve and pump it up with a tyre compressor. With new bags it will stay up for quite a while.
A new compressor is the easy quick fix though.

    Good luck.

Terry, I must get myself the bits to do that and work out where to connect to so that if I ever get stuck with a dead compressor in the bush somewhere I have the bus and know what to do
