Both the temperature monitors you referenced use a B3435 NTC* resistor as a temp sensor which appears to have a resistance of 10K ohms at 25 degree C

*NTC = Negative Temperature Coefficient, i.e., the resistance falls with an increase in temperature. A positive temp coefficient would mean the resistance rises with an increase in temp.

what phrasing am I looking for to use these thermocouples I have already bought--

I may be wrong but I'd say that you can't use thermocouples with the units designed for thermistors. I used one of these thermistor-based monitors with my Engel fridge modification (see another thread).

A thermocouple normally connects to a voltmeter.

I haven't yet read this whole thread. Did anyone use a thermocouple with their monitor? If so, which monitor?

Look for a monitor (or controller) specifically with thermocouple input and the type of thermocouple you have e.g. Type K.
NTC probes are popular as they are cheap and robust. I did a quick search on eBay and found items that had thermocouple in the title but the description were all NTC probes.
Do you have to use your thermocouples?

no,, and probably wont now. I have bought 2m extensions for the ntc controller. I hope they are long enough!

Oh wow ... How on earth have I made 1000posts .... Have I really buggered up my car that often :wasntme:

ATF temperature. No idea, I'm going to be towing with it so want to be able to keep an eye on them. I remember finding on the ashcroft site they reckoned 100degrees was hot for them. No biggie if you know it's getting hot .... you can just pull over and let it cool for 20minutes :)

sounds like 150degrees it absolute maximum and 80->120'ish is fine :confused:

Those gauges are quite deep, so I'm still trying to decide where to fit them without cutting up the dash too much .... :) extending the wires to the included sensors won't be a problem.

Just a warning guys.... Be aware, I have just found that the two identical gauges I have fitted to my old Range Rover classic .....UNDER STATE THE TEMPERTURE BY ABOUT 10DEGREES :eek: :eek:

You know she actually got quite hot stuck in traffic in melbourne and I wasn't aware. I have only realised as when I fitted an electric fan to replace the belt driven one. I found the fan switch on at 76 degree :confused: :confused: It should have switched the fan on at 85degrees ... so I plugged the temperature gauge attachment into my multi-meter and plugged in beside the gauges sensor .... and it said "85" as the fans cycled on! Dash gauge was saying about 75!
